Electric Division - Power Outages

KPU Bailey Operators are aware of large power outages. They have monitoring systems that alarm and notify them of the location immediately. Customers who experience individual power outages are encouraged to call Bailey Powerhouse at 907-225-4011 to report the outage to the System Operator, particularly if they are aware of the source of the problem, such as a downed tree, a pole fire, a car accident, etc.  If the System Operator is on another line or is busy dispatching crews, you will automatically be transferred  to a voicemail, where you can leave a detailed message including the nature of the problem, your name, address, and contact phone number. During severe weather there may be multiple causes of an outage at several points throughout the system.

To check if there is a widespread outage, you can check the outage map via the blue link below. You must refresh your browser to view the updated map. Green indicates that there is no system outage in an area. Red indicates that there is.

What to do during an outage:

  • Verify that the breakers within your home's main panel are on. Reset them if they have been blown or popped.
  • Make sure that your power bill has been paid and that your were not disconnected for non payment. If you had been shut off for nonpayment, you will often have to turn your  main breakers back on again at the main.
  • Contact Bailey Powerhouse at 907-225-4011.
  • Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed.
  • Close doors and windows to conserve heat.
  • Follow all precautions for  safe home generator  use.
  • Use flashlights, not candles, for emergency lighting to reduce risk of fire.
  • The American Red Cross provides a Power Outage Preparedness checklist, which outlines further steps you can take to ensure your comfort and well-being in the event of an outage.

If wires are down,  do not touch or go near them!  Keep  ALL  people and pets clear and call 911 immediately! See our Safety & Education page for more information on what to do in the event of a downed power line.
